It can be handy to have a custom alert tone for specific contacts (ex. your spouse, sitter, child, boss). Setting up custom tones can help ensure that you do not miss or ignore certain calls and text messages.

Here’s how (steps my differ slightly by device) …

To setup custom alerts on iPhone:

  1. Open the Contacts app and select a contact.
  2. Tap Edit in the top right corner.
  3. Scroll down to find the Ringtone and Text Tone options.
  4. Select a tone and tap Done.

To setup custom Ringtone on Android:

  1.  Open the People (or Contacts) app and select a contact
  2. Tap the Menu button (three vertical dots in top-right corner) and select Edit.
  3. Scroll down to Ringtone and tap to select a tone.

To setup a custom Text tone on Android:

  1. Tap the Conversation you wish to set a custom notification for.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the toggle next to Custom notifications.
  4. Tap the text Custom Notifications.
  5. Tap Sound.
  6. Tap your desired tone.
  7. Tap the back arrow in top left corner of the screen.
